National Women's Friendship Day

The Knoxville KD Alumnae Association celebrated NWFD on Sunday, September 12 by having an afternoon tea. Members were invited to attend and bring a guest. The event was well attended by KDs and non-KDs and gave us all a great chance to catch up and spend some quality time celebrating our friendships.

Pictures from STAR Visit

The Knoxville Kappa Delta Alumnae Association visited the Shangri-La Therapeutic Academy of Riding (STAR) during the July 2010 meeting. STAR's mission is to foster personal achievement by providing therapeutic experiences using horse related activities for persons with disabilities or other special challenges.

Restaurants.com Discount Offer

Good afternoon -

QSP and Kappa Delta are pleased to provide our members with an exclusive offer to purchase discount certificates to Restaurant.com. Try new restaurants in your area or save money eating at your favorite places!

I did this yesterday, and paid $20 for a $25 gift certificate to the Crown and Goose and Kan Pai of Tokyo, and Kappa Delta got $8!

Some of the restaurants on Restaurant.com are: Agave Azule, La Rumba, Ray's ESG, The Crown and Goose, La Costa, Baker Peters, and a few others.

It's a pretty neat deal. Saves you money, and helps KD!

Kappa Delta Alumnae Opportunities

Kappa Delta is looking for alumnae in the sales force, specifically those with training in current sales techniques that would lend their expertise for a training program on life skills. We want to develop a manual on communication skills to help our chapters not only in recruitment but life skills. We want to focus on basics of making a sale and closing the deal - how to sell not only KD but themselves. We are looking for members to help write a training manual that our chapter members will use for recruitment and also for life. Please send an email of interest with resume or work history to Katie Grassmyer at educationcomm@kappadelta.org.

Kappa Delta is also looking for a skilled PR executive willing to donate their time and experience to the Confidence Coalition. The Confidence Coalition is a movement to help girls and women become more confident and ready to stand up against media stereotypes, spousal and dating abuse, risky behaviors, bullying, gossiping, and other negative behaviors. If you are interested in helping please send your name, contact information and related experience to Melanie Schild at KDMelMc@aol.com.

Update your information for the Alumnae directory

Good afternoon! I hope everyone's had a great weekend. If you've not already received a yellow postcard from national Kappa Delta regarding the alumnae directory, please keep your eye out for it. You can call 800-869-8937 to go ahead an update your information. The alumnae associations depend on the information you have with nationals so please take a few minutes to do this.

Thanks!

A Note from our Alumnae Chapter President: New Year for Kappa Delta Knoxville Alumnae

First off, as the new Alumnae Association President I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you. I am Kelly Whiteaker and a 2002 graduate of Western Kentucky University where I was a member of KD's Delta Gamma Chapter. I grew up in Lebanon, TN and returned there after graduation before making the move to Knoxville during the summer of 2007. I have been actively involved with the alumnae group since my second week in Knoxville when I attended my first meeting.
My goal as President of the Alumnae Chapter is to grow and strengthen the Knoxville chapter by listening to what the members are looking for in an alumnae association. The Kappa Delta websites says that "Kappa Delta alumnae associations provide a fun and flexible way to connect with amazing Kappa Delta women in your community, take part in innovative projects, and participate in meaningful service to others." During our monthy outings we provide an opportunity to meet and socialize with old and new friends and also conduct a short business meeting. The busines issues we discuss range from UT's local chapter to ways we can help the community.

Based on feedback from the survey at our Christmas Party will be moving our meetings to the third Tuesday of each month at 6 o'clock and will continue to have our meetings be hosted in a member's home or at a local restaraunt.

A full calendar of events will be coming soon, but for the month of February we will be meeting at Litton's on February 17th at 6:00 (an evite has been sent out).

Other news to make you aware of:
*We still need to fill the positions of Vice President, Membership, Shamrock and Collegiate Relations
*We are on Facebook and can be found by searching for: Knoxville Kappa Delta Alumnae Chapter
*Annual dues are $35 and can be brought to a meeting or mailed to Jeanine Brown @ 7700 Gleason Drive 39E Knoxville, TN 37919

I look forward to working with all of you during 2009. Any questions, comments, ideas or concerns you might have please email me directly @ whiteaker1@hotmail.com and I will be happy to listen, answer or address them. If you have another email address that you prefer we use please respond back to this email with that information. Also, please pass this on to any sisiters you know of in the area that are not geeting this email, we will be happy to include them if they will update us with their contact information. See you all at Litton's!

Housing Fund Update for Alpha Epsilon

Alpha Epsilon is making great things happen at the University of Tennessee!
http://web.utk.edu/~kdaot/assets/house.html
Plans are moving along to open the new Alpha Epsilon chapter house in 2010 and we are pleased to announce that we are halfway to our goal of one million dollars raised for a chapter house on the campus of the University of Tennessee. A HUGE thank you to all who have made our progress possible. But we still need your help!!
We had a fabulous fall formal recruitment and pledged 52 wonderful new members! We could not be happier with the new member class this year.
There are a number of ways that you can show your support for Alpha Epsilon. Please choose what fits your circumstance best. We need every Alpha Epsilon’s support!
First and foremost, Alpha Epsilon still needs donations towards our capital campaign. UT has told us it cannot break ground for our house until we have one million dollars raised or pledged. There are still some naming opportunities available, so don’t delay. To access the tax-deductible donation form and see details on the capital campaign and its progress, please click this link:http://web.utk.edu/~kdaot/assets/house.html
Secondly, Kappa Delta Sorority and QSP magazine agency have provided a great opportunity for Alpha Epsilons and their friends and family to support the housing efforts with money that they already are spending on magazine subscriptions. Sound too good to be true? It is not!
All you have to do is click on this link below (or at the top of this blog) to renew magazines that you are already buying and nearly half of the subscription price will go directly to Alpha Epsilon House Corporation to be used in the new chapter house. Of course, you can purchase new subscriptions as well! http://www.qsp.com/Store/Index.aspx?FAccountId=425901305&SiteId=1&aip=true
As an added bonus, clicking on this link will take you to a drawing of the proposed Sorority Village site plan and you can see exactly where Kappa Delta is in the circle. We are thrilled with our choice and working hard with the architects to situate the house on the lot so it showcases the beauty that Kappa Delta brings to our daily lives. Keep this link as we will be posting further photos as we progress towards our dream come true of a beautiful house for Alpha Epsilon at the University of Tennessee.
This magazine opportunity is just one of the many ways you can support Alpha Epsilon through your generosity. Please forward this link to family and friends and ask them to renew or purchase their magazines through this site, you don’t have to be an Alpha Epsilon to purchase. Nearly half of the proceeds of all magazine purchases go to Alpha Epsilon (instead of all to the publisher) and it adds up. Research shows that the average household spends $200 a year on magazine subscriptions. Just think if all Alpha Epsilons renewed their magazines through this site to benefit the Alpha Epsilon house?
The holiday season is fast approaching and magazine subscriptions make great gifts. This is truly the gift that gives twice. You can also purchase beautiful commemorative Christmas ornaments that will benefit the house as well, please contact Missy Griffin at missy.griffin@gmail.com. The ornament is a brass door with KD aboveit to signify the new house and sells for $75.
Finally, we are still in need of pledge class chairs to coordinate participation from your pledge class. This is a great way to catch up and re-connect with those sisters who are special to you while helping Alpha Epsilon. We need chairs for the following years:1994, 1992, 1990, 1989, 1986, 1978 and 1969-1966.Please reply to this e-mail if you are interested.
Thank you for your kind assistance in making our dream come true!
